What’s on MY playlist?

6 03 2008

Amy asked so here’s my answer. I’m just playing a random shuffle and giving you the first 11 that come up. The exception is my two Dane Cook stand-ups I have on there. They aren’t music!

  • I Want You to Want Me – Letters to Cleo ~ This song!! It makes me want to just go crazy and dance. I first heard this version on 10 Things I Hate About You. You know you loved that movie too, don’t lie. Every time it comes on and I’m in the car, I crank it up and sing it as loud as I can. I remember one time Rura was pissed at me and not speaking to me in the car. This song came on and he got the full experience.
  • Clumsy– Fergie ~ This is my ringback tone. It’s flirty, then again SHE is flirty and I like it.
  • Walking on the Sun– Smashmouth ~ This song takes me back to high school. Me and my BFF were big into Smashmouth. I don’t know why. Ha. “It ain’t no joke I’d like to buy the world a toke”” 25 years ago they smoked out and they broke out of resession and oppression” Amen brother. Lets just all get high and end this war. Whoo. *cough* Errr…. moving on…
  • Wish You Were Here – Incubus ~ How can you not love Incubus? This song totally rocks. My favorite Incubus song is Echo but this one is pretty awesome too.
  • Epiphany– Staind ~ This song brings out a lot of emotions for me. “So I speak to you in riddles, because my words get in my way””I dig myself a little hole, inside your precious heart””Forget all the things I should have said””It’s always raining in my head” I went through a pretty shitty break up in high school, while I was separated from the ex and well, this song describes that guy to a T.
  • Apologize – One Republic ~ The first people I think of when I hear this song is T and her husband. “Tell me that you need me, then you go and cut me down””I take another chance, take the fall, take a shot for you” That is him. He would do anything for that bitch.
  • Keep Fishing– Weezer ~ Dude this song has the Muppet’s in the video. Nuff’ said.
  • Thanks for the Memories– Fall Out Boy ~ I love me some Fall Out Boy. “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” was one of the first songs that was one of “our” songs. We played the shit out of that when we first started seeing each other. As for this song, I love it. There is much debate over the lyrics “He tastes like you, but sweeter” Now I think he is singing from the chicks perspective but Rura is convinced that it means they are all gay. Whatever.
  • Kokomo – The Beach Boys ~ I remember being in 3rd grade and sitting in the tire swing with my friends and singing this song at school. Thinking about that now, it probably wasn’t very appropriate, considering I went to a private school. I’m a Beach Boys girl at heart.
  • Landslide– Dixie Chicks ~ I totally Heart the Dixie Chicks. I have a lot of songs on my Ipod that are theirs. This song was very beautifully redone by them. Further proof, another Dixie Chicks song came on right after this one, I Like It.
  • SwayBic Runga ~ Go ahead and click on her name because most people have no idea who she is. If you were as big a fan of American Pie as I was, you know this song. It’s THE song, where they are all doing it after prom. You know the one. “Say you’ll stay, don’t come and go like you do””It’s all because of you” The lyrics are beautiful and her voice is haunting. Check her out.

So there you go. Just a little taste of the 657 songs I have on my Ipod. So many are missing too. This list could go on for days. Be thankful it hasn’t.

So whats on YOUR playlist? Give me a recommendation.

So sorry

26 02 2008

I haven’t been able to post in the last week because I have been enjoying a fabulous vacation in Paris.

No, I haven’t. I’m a big fat bitchy liar.

I hate blog entries like this. I hate to read them because really, who the fuck cares where I have been. I don’t have any tragedies to tell. I don’t have any good news either. I’ve just been busy.

Busy reading. Busy reading this, this, this, and I am totally wrapped up in THIS right now. SOO good. If you can, pick it up.

Why am I so obsessed with Jodi Picoult right now? The question should be, why are you NOT? She is a fantastic writer. My personal favorite. How in the hell am I reading so many books in less than a month? Don’t ask. Much neglect to my child and blog happens during this process.

The book I am reading now, Nineteen Minutes, is just compelling. It’s about a school shooting. Picoult writes from the perspectives of ALL involved from the shooter, to the students, their parents, law enforcement, and the judicial system. She never takes a side but gives the raw, honest feelings in every way that she can. Her books are just books that you cannot put down.

That said, I am wasting time writing this when I could be reading. Not that I don’t love you all, I just have this addiction that I have to go tend to.

Be lucky its not booze or sex.

A Perfect Post, amongst other things

3 01 2008

Yup, its that time. Perfect Post Award time. I always keep an eye out for those posts that really touch me and they are out there, all over the blogosphere. But I always forget to write my perfect post award. Maybe 2008 will be a good excuse to stop forgetting simple things like that!

PP Dec

I’m giving my December perfect post to Jessie for her Anniversary post, Happy. It’s true you know. The great loves of our lives don’t always come with a “spark”. If you have someone in your life that can quiet the daily rush of activity around you, you are lucky indeed. Of course, I will argue that an 8 1/2 inch personality cant exactly HURT, now can it?

If you want more PP, go visit Petroville and Suburban Turmoil.

Aside from that Perfect Post award, I can recommend LOTS of good blogs with LOTS of good entries. Lets see…

Guess 2008 brought out the fertility stick because two of my favorite bloggers are pregnant. Go give congrats to The Kept Woman and Heather over at I’ll Think of It. I was holding Rura’s niece the other day and I gave him the eyes and said “lets have one”. He just rolled his eyes at me. Is that a no?

Z is kicking 2007 out the door. Sometimes we have bad years. It happens. 2008 belongs to her though. Amy needs some support and some major muscle to break down some walls. Go lend her an ear or two.

If you want gossip, go check out Ali’s new website, Juice: Entertainment News with Extra Pulp. She touches on all kinds of good stuff and always has good music to pimp too. Go say hi why don’t you!

Monique is making some big changes in ’08. Maybe we can all learn something from them!

One more thing… Go check out Crawl Watch ’08. Its gonna be a good one.

Score!

29 11 2007

As I was doing my normal blog reading today, I never thought I would actually GET something out of it. Tomorrow, we are gettin’ a new TV. And a DVD player. And free DVD’s. I love me some free stuff. Yes, I have to treck allll the way out to Beaumont to get them, but its ok.

See Jessie is ridding her home of TV. She says they don’t need it. I say thats awesome. For them. For us? Not so much.

We are TV people. Sure its probably rotting our brain. That’s fine by me. I’m a movie addict and my boys are gaming freaks. Right now Rura’s playing a video game. We just got done watching an hour and a half of Cops DVD’s. Before that? I read on the couch with my mom for almost two hours. (I’m reading a really good book right now.)

collection
Those are my DVD’s that I have managed to either salvage from my ex or buy new. That is NOTHING compared to what my old collection looked like. To the left, a sliver of my book collection. Those are just the books I have read and/or bought in the last few months. Dont mind the 3 cups of Jamba Juice. We have a slight addiction. You can also see my very yummy cookies in the very back by the wall. Hee. Can you spy anything else?

I’m not going to say that TV enriches our life or any of that crap. But having a TV in the house and in my room is something I have always have. I love to watch the news in the morning when I am getting ready for work. One of my favorite things to do is cuddle in bed and watch a movie with Rura, one we both enjoy. We like to watch Cops, and South Park, and Family Guy, and CSI, and Las Vegas, and Heroes. Even SBJ enjoys Heroes.

There is a lot of debate over TV being bad for you and all that. I don’t believe the hype. We spend a lot of time together as a family anyways and the amount of TV we watch is small in the long run. All I know is, I’m getting an awesome deal on a much bigger TV than the 6 inch TV I have in my room now. Yea, I actually think its smaller than that. It’s sad. I’ve had it since I was a kid. And you know what? This will be the first TV I have bought on my own.

Does that make me a grown up? Oh and Jessie, do you have any left over turkey? That you might be able to make into a sandwhich? That might just be ready when I show up? No? Cookies? Bread? I’m just sayin….

Just in time!

10 11 2007

No photos today. I only took pictures 1 day out of the week and those were of Rura in his uniform before he went on a ride along Wednesday. Maybe I’ll post it later.

I’m ass deep in Season 1 of Heroes. I’ve been watching the new season and my parents wont tell me any of the back story so since I had the house to myself tonight, I thought I would rent the first two discs. I knew I should have gotten the third one too!!

Now I believe the hype. I just hope it doesn’t end up like Lost, all confusing like.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Do I really have to say it again??? ARK Sunday!

Squeee!

10 10 2007

I usually don’t get all “fan girl” about stuff, but I am a music geek. My daddy is proud. He raised me to appreciate all kinds of music.

I am one of those people who says “I like pretty much any kind of music” and actually mean it. I don’t say that, and then go “except [insert music of choice here]”. Coming from a music background, I appreciate all parts of music from lyrics to melody to rhythms, counts, and harmonies. I mean, my grandfather used to travel in the band that performed for Pancho Villa! Music and performance runs in my blood. I use music and intertwine it in my memories. Listening to my playlist isn’t just casual to me, its an experience. Yup, I’m a totally geek.

Well I got a little off track with that didn’t I? I was actually blogging about the release of the third album from one of my most favoritist artists, Vanessa Carlton.

vc

I have been waiting 3 years for this third album!! Her last release was in 2004 and it came out right before we took my last trip to San Francisco. The memories I have of her last album, Harmonium, are that of cold days, rain, wearing scarves and sweaters, and feeling at home. That album even has a song titled “San Francisco” and the song itself brings me back there every single time I hear it. It was during that time that I decided that I was going to try and be happy, with or without the help of my ex. That even if he didn’t love me, I didn’t need him too. Of course, that really didn’t work out because once he saw me making myself happy, he doubled his efforts to make me miserable. And he took me back to the place I tried to stay away from. But whenever I would listen to this album, I would feel good again.

Do you know how hard it is to wait for another album like that? Its painful! But I went out and bought it last night and now I’m at work, listening to it. Every album she makes, she reinvents herself. This one is no different and I love it so far. If you happen to be at Target this week, pick it up because its only 10 bucks right now. Or just nicely ask me to make you a copy and I’ll send it to you. If you are REALLY nice, I’ll just make you a Vanessa Carlton CD with all my favorites on it from her last two albums along with all of this new one. Wow, I’m nice.

Oh and if you still cant place who this chick is, think “A Thousand Miles” because everyone knows that song. And if thats the only one you know, then A) you suck and B) please let me educate you. Seriously, if you want a copy, just leave me a comment and I’ll get back to you by email.
